Recap of Chapter 122

In the opening chapter 122 of Mato Seihei no Slave, the narrator describes Rairen as a monstrous creature. Without breaking a sweat, he has thwarted every assault by the 7th squad. It was the complete reversal of the situation when he was battling on an equal footing with Chief Tenka, who had him in her hands.

With each usage, Kyouka’s ultimate move grew stronger, she realized. Because of this, using it against him and ending the fight simultaneously would be their best option. However, she required some space and time to gather all her energy before she could unleash that attack.

Thunder God

While Kyouka refueled, Shushu and Himari confronted the thunder god, using their abilities to distract him. Himari supported Shushu, helped her recover, and used the excellent opportunity to deflect the attackers’ strikes. Even though Shushu had regenerated and recovered from Himari, the Thunder God was still looking forward to fighting the pair.

This conflict had been going on for the longest time—more than ten chapters—between the two groups. Even though we missed out on several great moments due to unnecessary battle scenes, we did get to watch some decent action.

First of all, we got a glimpse of the 8th division chief’s abilities, including her domain expansion-like skill, for the first time.

As a one-woman army and in her battle against the thunder god, Tenka demonstrates her abilities. Kyouko now has the opportunity to prove that she isn’t significantly weaker than her rival. With a single blow, Kyouko will put an end to the conflict.

What has happened till now?

As the struggle against the gods drags on, the 7th Division finds itself stretched thin. Unlike Fukuma, who was defeated by the 8th Division, Rairen breezed by Kyouka and her body. His struggle against Tenka, which resulted in his run for the money, is weakening him.

There are a few Chiefs who can hold their own against the gods, even though they are portrayed as unequal beings. Tenka is one of them; she’s the only female character in the show to like Yuuki just because he is, not because she feels pressured to. Although it’s disappointing to see Tenka depart when the battle has progressed so far, Kyouka now has the chance to prove herself.
