He works for the Kaiju cleanup squad which cleans up the mess around the city after Kaiju’s are defeated. He will meet with a new recruit, Ichikawa Reno. By saving him from a Kaiju attack, they both are going to end up in the hospital. That’s where Kafka’s luck and life will change.

What is Kaiju No. 8 is all about?

For a long time now, Japanese residents have been reporting sightings of hideous monsters known as “kaijuu” that resemble Godzilla. An elite military squad called the Defense Corps fights these monsters every day, risking their lives to protect humans. The Professional Kaijuu Cleaner Corporation employs “sweepers” whose job it is to dispose of dead creatures.

A 32-year-old man named Kafka Hibino is miserable in his position as a sweeper. He has always wanted to be a kaiju killer and join the Defense Corps.

However, he surrendered to the mediocrity that brought in a respectable salary after a few fruitless endeavors. Leno Ichikawa, an enthusiastic 18-year-old recruit, becomes a reminder of Kafka’s desire to join the military when he joins his cleaning squad.

After a series of bad incidents and a conversation with the junior sweeper, Kafka becomes a monster with human features after a parasite-type kaiju gets into his mouth. Kafka plans to give his long-awaited ambition one last go with his new abilities.
