I have read many novels and I have to say that Lord of the Mysteries might be my personal favorite and one of the best works I have ever read. What I like the most is the World that has been built which is most bizarre and dangerous.

Here you will find more cunningness, greed, traps, mysteries, schemes, etc which is totally opposite to most power fantasy and magical novels or manga.

I started this on the recommendation of my friend and I was not disappointed while reading this. I want to clear things up first that this novel starts pretty slowly with the buildup. So have patience, it will get better and better with every chapter.

As a reader, you will see Klein Moretti (MC) journey as he explores the world which is filled with machines, cannons, and more.

World Building and Lore

The Worldbuilding, lore, and it’s setting is what makes the novel one of the best. The World is set in the Victorian era and it was crafted perfectly. It is similar to our modern-day world but with a touch of older generation feel.

You might think certain high-profile characters don’t matter until you see how they contribute to the plot and impact the events unfolding in the novel. Plus money and economy play a vital role in the novel.

Characters

First, we will talk about our main character, “Klein Moretti” who is not overpowered from the start which I like the most. Getting an overpowered MC right from the start makes the story boring at some point.

The journey of Klein getting powerful is wonderful. There is a little plot armor where that helps in the story but not that much. Every time he faces an enemy, they are always powerful and ahead of him in terms of power. But how Klein deals with them by using his brain and smartness will always gives you goosebumps while reading.

Cuttlefish made numerous beautifully written characters in the novel. Among the many wonderful people that make up the Tarot Club is Miss Justice, who is one of my favorites. For example, Daly’s conclusion was one of the well-handled character conclusions in Lord of the Mysteries novel.

Antagonists

Of course, when it comes to villains, the author has presented some of the best-written villains in the story. The dynamics and all the rivalry with Klein are amazing to read with all the buildup and setup.

The Power System

The power system in Lord of the Mysteries novel is one of the unique ones that I have read. It’s not like some mana or fantasy power system. But here you have potions through which you can obtain powers.

22 different pathways provide different abilities. Advancing from one sequence to another can only be done with the help of potions. Also, advancing is not that easy as you just drank the potion and bam, you are powerful.

There is a chance and risk that you might lose control. Knowledge and how to use potions is also very important.

Thoughts

From start to end, the Lord of the Mysteries novel is truly a masterpiece and well-written. I can handle find any cons except that you won’t see any romance in it. So if you are more like a romance genre type reader, this isn’t for you. I have tried to keep the review and information as spoilers-free as possible, so you can enjoy the story.
