Yeon Sang-ho, A Remarkable Korean Writer & Director

Yeon Sang-ho is a famous South Korean director and writer who has created some of the very popular shows. Yeon got attention from the world, when his adult animation film named ‘The Kings of Pigs’ got famous amongst the audience in 2011. Also his film ‘The Fake’ got immense attention throughout the world. His most significant work around that time was ‘Train to Busan’ which was a live action film released in 2016. Train to Busan got a huge response and appreciation around the world. Another live action film named ‘Peninsula’ which was the sequel of Train to Busan got released in 2020 and got a huge response around the world.

Initial Life of Yeon Sang-ho

Yeon sang-ho was born on 25 December 1978 in Seoul, South Korea. He was raised in Seoul and graduated from Sangmyung University in Western Painting. The first film which Yeon directed was back in 1997 when he was just 19 years old. The film which he directed was an animated movie named ‘Megalomania’.

Yeon Sang-ho’s Career

After directing his first film Megalomania in, Yeon Sang-ho directed another film named D-Day which came out in 2000 and another film named The Hell which came out in 2002. After getting success in direction, Yeon opened his own production house named ‘Dadashow’ in 2004. Later in the decade, his other works like ‘The Hell: Two kinds of life’ and ‘Love is Protein’ which were released in 2006 and 2008 respectively also did quite amazing. 

The Kings of Pigs in 2011, which was Yeon’s first feature length animated movie and it was like a major breakthrough for him. As per Yeon, the story of the movie was somehow related to his own life. Movie got a lot of criticism in both ways and it was widely recognised as one of the best Korean animated movies. It also became the first Korean movie in animation to get an invitation to the Cannes Film festival.
